Wednesday March 9th, Denver PUG meeting

March 7, 2011

Rock Bottom Brewery – Park Meadows

9627 East County Line Road
Englewood, CO

Photographer Jason Aten visiting from Michigan will be the special guest speaker!

ALSO, he is hosting a workshop the following day (Thurs March 10) Use the code ‘denpug’ for a rate of $275…

…Here’s more info:

This is not a typical workshop. It’s not a seminar. If you’re looking for a day of learning more about your camera and shooting pretty models – this isn’t for you.

On the other hand, if you’re ready to go deep – and get serious about your photography business, you can’t afford to miss this. You can’t afford to NOT start out right.

Unlike most photography “workshops,” this isn’t about photography. It’s based on business principles to help you grow your business.

Jason brings a background in management and marketing from working at as an executive at a Fortune 100 company, and the experience of starting – and building a successful boutique studio based in the midwest. Jason’s studio serves clients nationally and internationally.

You’ll leave with answers. You’ll leave with a PLAN. You’ll leave with the best practices and key strategies to help grow a business built to last.

We’ll start by helping define your goals. Using that as the foundation, we’ll get a grip on the numbers – including pricing, budgets, cash flow, expenses, and more. We’ll talk about how to understand and manage the financial health of your business, including de-mystifying financial reports (Balance Sheet, Income & Expense, and Cash Flow).

Based on a solid understanding of your expenses and what it costs you to be in business, we’ll also talk about pricing strategy and help you develop pricing that works for your business.

You only have so much time, and we often find ourselves spending it on things that barely help us get by – and DON’T help us grow our businesses. We’ll talk about how developing efficient systems can help set your business up for real growth.

From workflow, to client management, to administrative tasks, we’ll talk about how to set up your business to free up time to do the things that help you grow your business.

Developing a brand – and a marketing strategy to support that brand – are key to finding the right clients. We’ll go through best practices in marketing and brand development – so that you’ll leave with key principles you can put in to place immediately.

The relationships you develop with your clients are about more than smiles and smooth talking. We’ll cover how we walk our clients through from inquiry to completion – and how we start the cycle over. Our goal is to build clients for life.

Shooting Workshop Title: Lightpainting on a Shoestring Budget

Blake Street Tavern

R. J. has the energy of a classroom of second-graders.  He’s always excited about what he’s doing, and that spills over onto whoever is around him.  He is an experienced technical instructor with Lockheed Martin and loves to engage in his Toastmaster speaking opportunities. His art is meticulously crafted, that of an aged journeyman. The level at which R. J. consistently operates elevates and inspires other photographers.  He enjoys sharing and teaching to anyone who’ll listen. As an international award-winning photographer, R. J. brings infectious enthusiasm for lighting his clients. To watch him create an image is a treat you will enjoy.

What will attendees walk away with?
R. J. will share some of his tips & tricks from his signature style and will demonstrate how he creates portraits with easy-to-deploy lighting tactics which require no assistants and can be done anywhere, anytime with meager equipment costs. Attendees will learn how to do more with less which helps to differentiate a photography brand and prevent photographer burn-out. The goal of this shooting workshop is to demonstrate how to produce signature-style results in challenging lighting situations. Participants will walk away with a new found source of inspiration served up by pop culture but not depressed by art history.

In 150 words or less, please write an explanation of what your shooting workshop will cover.
We’ll cover how to be as efficient and creative as possible on each shoot using non-traditional lighting tools and what works and what doesn’t with light-painting. We’ll cover the simple tools required to pull-off dynamic lighting tricks that will leave your clients astounded. After understanding the philosophy and approach to light-painting, we’ll cover nuts-and-bolts “learn-by-doing” opportunities that can extend your shooting into the night, illuminated by halogen flash lights, mini-LED keychain lights, Speedlights, blended with strobes. This workshop is intended for photographers who love seeing a magician reveal secrets.
